Sunflowers

There is a little old man that lives on top of a hill. A massive, steep, I-don't-know-how-he-does-it-when-it-snows hill. He planted sunflowers alongside this hill of his in the summer. Everyday on my way home from work he would be out there weeding, watering, and digging away. And without fail, every time I drove by he looked up, smiled, and waved. I keep telling myself that one of these days I'll pull over and chat a bit. My mother would be concerned, but I can't help it!

It is now February, and the sunflowers are gone. "One of these days" hasn't come around yet. There's something to be said about a feeble old man who toils away relentlessly, despite the obvious difficulties, to grow something so cheerful just because. He gives me hope that I too can do something with what little was given to me that can make others grasp at hope, when all anyone else sees is the red, muddy clay that is a steep useless hill.

Live Today a Little Brighter

Of course we all realize this. It is no news flash. But last night, it was a peek at reality from behind the curtained view of life. I was reminded last night that we won't always be here. Everything we take for granted, everything we love, everything we strive towards, it is all for a season. We often times get too wrapped up in our own goals and ambitions, that we lack to take a moment to step back and see how it's all coming together. To see the person we are becoming.

My one goal in life is to make a difference. Somewhere, somehow. I desire to help others find the truth, and love it for what it is. When someone asks me for help or advice, I want to point them to the cross and just be a witness of His love and never-ending mercy. This life is far too short to be lived without a cause.

So while we busy ourselves with the daily to-do's and the running here and there, take a moment to cherish the sunbeams warming your face. Listen to the pitter-patter of the rain and let it hum you to sleep. Breathe in the fresh air and fill your lungs with the joy of a new morning. Smile at a stranger. BE the change. Don't sit and hope for it to fall out of the sky.
